Dominoes is a family of tile-based games played with gaming pieces, commonly known as dominoes. Each domino is a rectangular tile with a line dividing its face into two square ends. Each end is marked with a number of spots (also called pips or dots) or is blank. The backs of the tiles in a set are indistinguishable, either blank or having some common design. The gaming pieces make up a domino set, sometimes called a deck or pack. Reference: Wikipedia
Dominoes can be very collectible and sometimes the value can be in their provenance rather than the actual values of the tiles. This can be seen in the dominoes set which reputedly taken to the Arctic by Shackleton. What would normally fetch a small price sold for £20,000. Other domino sets are valued for their rarity such as those made by prisoners of war during the Napoleonic Wars.
Below are some examples and price guides of domino sets including an unusual French miniature drum set and two Italian silver sets by Buccellati.
